Graduation Day and Farewell

Grad day

This year the graduation of the Passionate Heart of Dance came off with fewer WTF’s than last year.

Tivi procured us a fine DJ by the name of Wain Arun who, even though it was his first dance event, came through like a champ.  Sarahs dance was a stand out, starting from her wheelchair and entering the dream of freedom in dance brought tears to many’s eyes. Miss Anna’s piano dance to Clair de  lune brought back fond memories of my Grandfather and I.

I was disappointed in my Firebirds child dance as I had crashed right before and forgot to reactivate the fly override so instead of flying up…I hopped around like a chicken.  It was well received though and I was pleased my transformation into the Phoenix came off.  Of course, in true SL style I crashed entering the pit for my second dance. The cashe command that Anna showed me the night before saved my butt and kept me calm during the emoting and removal of costume pieces.

The ROAR dance was a rousing success with lots of crowd interaction.  Rya said that during it, and all our individual dances, her IMs lit up with lots of positive comments.

The farewell..

When Rya agreed to move her class to the Gorean campus she only had a few requirements, to conduct her class in voice, to be able to have the music stream as needed for dance practice and that her students feel comfortable there. She also said that senior students were being groomed to teach.  Over the last couple months those things were stripped one by one.  We got complaints that the voice could be heard in other classes scheduled in classrooms near the pit.   The teaching student, myself included, were stripped of rights.  The stream was made unavailable and we were told the sim owner reserved the right to control it.  We had never abused the right and the sim owner was seldom able to return from other responsibilities to turn it over as we needed it.  How can we have a dance class with no music?

I have run a sim, I know the work involved.  If you take on all control of every thing that transpires you not only will fail someone at some point you also will stop enjoying your SL experience.  The sim owner failed us.  I will not go into her personal behaviors that were inappropriate but stick to the needs of the class that were not met.  So we take our farewells and go to the new dance garden that Tivi built and her Master supplied us with.  I woke to find myself not only out of the group but also defriended by the sim owner, either as a member of the class or because of my opinions expressed here….sighs.  The Passionate Heart Academy of Dance goes on.

The Asperiche Dance

I was happy to attend the 3rd anniversary of the Asperiche city and their sunrise dance.  We were told that in the night the PK raised 2 more land masses and the city builders were hard at work enlarging the city and a new dance pavilion was in the works.

There were good dances and not so good dances as usual, one seasoned dancer performed far below the level I have seen her dance at before and was disappointing.  Talking to one of the judges after he agreed, he expected better.

The winner Pheadra did a placation dance and a very good one. Beginning and ending with book quotes showed the Gorean thought process was involved.  She deserved the award. Perle danced in at second and amazed, she had every dancers nightmare of crashing right before she entered the pit. She popped in and cashed and recovered to do a great dance.  I would have been a wreck.

One of the things I was taught in dancing and it showed here, don’t distract from your dance. Watch your emotes match your visual.  One dancers props failed to rezz in properly and the ones she emoted interacting with she didn’t provide.  If your going to have some, you have to have all or people cam around looking for them and get distracted.  It’s better just to use the main prop…yourself.  One dancer spoke of her lips smiling, the statue skin she wore had no face…I was distracted.  Knowing how bad lag is at any performance, the use of props has to be agonized over. One dance I went back and forth of having or not having till the last second….I used them and they popped in and out on time…but it just as easily could go the other way.

Man, read the whole thing!

“Now probably homosexuality existed on Gor, but as it was written as a mans world….”

I am talking about homosexuality on Gor…not Earth or even my feelings about it AND for the record they are: WHAT YOU DO IN YOUR BED IS YOUR OWN DAMN BUSINESS!

Now if you want to discuss quotes from the books fine, but don’t make a assumption about me and attack.  These are my thoughts about what happens in the Gorean roleplay I am a part of.  Jeezzz, you don’t agree then fine, your entitled to your opinions too. My point is why can’t people figure out they created a character to exist on another planet with culture, standards and traditions different from Earth, why try to make it into Earth? The bases of judging a Goraen dance is, “Is this a dance that would be seen on Gor”.  In my opinion that one was not. Not in a public place. The male dominated society would be up in arms. So therefore it was not a Gorean dance.  This is not about if homosexuality is right or wrong, its about people thinking like Goreans in Gor, not Earthlings.

Yes, I am still alive.

What’s new in the Gorean Dance would?   Judges who do not know how to judge Gorean dance.  I had the pleasure of watching the contest at a unnamed location in August. The second place winner did a love dance to her lesbian Mistress.  Now probebly homosexuality existed on Gor, but as it was written as a mans world, and in all likelihood 2 lesbians would be hiding deep under the veil of “normal Gorean behavior”… that is hiding it well as the slave would be killed and fed to the Tarns and the Mistress striped, collared and “taught her place as a woman”.  I can only assume the judges used Earth reasoning to accept the dance as Gorean.  If you cannot extrapolate your role-play in a fictional society based on what you read in the books that are the guides to that role-play… Go to another style of RP!!  I have said it before and I will say it again. Contests should not be judged by women.  FW worked to repress their sexuality to preserve their freedom, they would not want to watch slaves dancing. So why have them judge us?  It is not logical to the society.

On Sept. 28th I took a challenge dance to create a dance set to a modern tune but danced in traditional Gorean style.  I chose a lovely version of Maroon 5’s Daylight and did a Sa-eela, or the neglected slave dance, to it.  I was pleased to find I came in 3rd place (although only first was awarded) behind two very talented dancers, Snow and Perle.  I once again received praise in IM’s from 2 of the judge…. but felt I could have done better but still was pleased.

My advanced class is graduating this Sunday and the beginners are also participating and graduating. Rya put together a fine group dance to Katy Perry’s ROAR.  It has been a rollercoster of up and down making me laugh and grind my teeth.
